Ingress wallpaper: hatfullofcats and PyjamaNinjas

Thursday, 1 September 2016 @ 3:24pm
When I first started playing Ingress, hatfullofcats was the first person to welcome me on board and drag me into the faction hangout, and also among the first of the local crew I met in real life. And after talking to them and their partner PyjamaNinjas for a while and seeing those names crop up semi-frequently in my scanner, my brain eventually developed characters for their igns because that’s what I do. And yes occasionally I like taking things literally :P so I made them a wallpaper just because :)

LegendaryPoGoLoGo

Monday, 11 July 2016 @ 8:58am
After Pokemon Go was officially released (with some very agonising teething problems), one of the other field testers/admins of the Western Australian Pokemon Go community I’d made the wapogologo for said it would be cool if there was a similar logo with the legendary birds (who are the official mascots for the three teams). So I made one using the same colour schemes as the eeveelutions. Next up, team logos/patches.

Works in progress

Thursday, 23 June 2016 @ 6:25pm
Because I’m failing at making proper progblogs due to having to slog through a massive backlog (which now has a severe dent in it, unfortunately I think I also made a dent in myself XD). Retopology of a chimaera in 3d Coat which I will rig in Blender and then draw over

Wacom Cintiq Companion Hybrid/13HD and associated app settings on Ubuntu Studio 16.04LTS

Sunday, 5 June 2016 @ 3:15pm
Downloading all the things Add the repository for Gnome Pie Menu: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:simonschneegans/testing sudo apt-get update Download helper utilities: sudo apt-get install easystroke wmctrl xdotool gnome-pie Download apps: Blender Krita 3d Coat 3d Coat is a proprietary product. Ubuntu Studio ships with a version of Blender and Krita but they lag at least a version behind. The shipped versions may well do the job (and be easier to upgrade) unless you specifically need something in a newer version or just like being on the latest version of everything. I stashed all of these in /usr/local as that’s on its own partition on the ssd. My home directory is on a 2Tb not-ssd. I don’t know if that’s “right and proper” for Linux but everything works, I know where it is and it theoretically shouldn’t get hosed if Ubuntu explodes and requires a complete reinstall so I don’t care.

WAPOGOLOGO

3d pikachu wip

Sunday, 3 January 2016 @ 8:47pm
Testing out 3dCoat’s sculpting tools as well. Roughed out shape with voxels then switched to live clay for detailing. Painted and autopo’d and automapped (I swear that thing is going to make me so slack - the manual retopo tools are also pretty awesome) and exported but haven’t fired it up in Blender yet. Colour mapped bulbasaur

Sunday, 3 January 2016 @ 8:38pm
Testing out 3d Coat (which I ended up buying after all of one day). I’m going to have to improve my texturing skills now that I have a kickass texture painter. This work by ryivhnn is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License

Bulbasaur digital sculpt

Friday, 1 January 2016 @ 12:34am
After a nice evening out with friends I fnished 2015 and started 2016 working on art. Everything is being progressed and this makes me happy. Finished a dynatopo sculpt of pixietrix’s Bulbasaur. Probably would have taken somewhere between 2 and 4 hours to do if I hadn’t stuffed up the back legs, reverted and ended up a lot further back than expected (because apparently I hadn’t saved where I thought I had).

Taliesin concept sketch

Monday, 28 December 2015 @ 11:17pm
Super-quickie sketch of Taliesin (genderless shadowshifter/mouse hybrid child of Helios and Sunkiss) for Midnight to give her an idea of xir default colour scheme. The colouring was also super quick and turned out all right so I guess I have to colour all my sketches from hereon :) This work by ryivhnn is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License

Pokemon: vaguely realistic mega-pidgeot (and passenger)

Monday, 28 December 2015 @ 1:09pm
Not quite down to the wire but close enough and done enough as far as I’m concerned. One vaguely realistic mega-pidgeot and rider/passenger for The Great Pokemon Sky Race collab. Learned a bit about feathers and feathering (one of the things being I need to learn more) and decided against adding fwoosh as I could not work out how to make speed lines look convincing with this style and I didn’t have time to do the motion blue I was thinking of doing. Probably did agility and tail wind in rapid succession to run away from XantheUnwinArt’s terrifying shiny mega-charizard but I suppose running away from anything on a similar angle will suffice as far as the end result goes.
