Christmas Island isn’t the biggest island in the world, if you point the car’s nose down the road and drive without stopping along any major track you’ll end up back where you started in about half an hour. We went out in an exploratory mood and took many photos.

Homeschooling art and English: storyboarding with Mummy (who was working on AR storyboards) 4yo gets 3 birthday celebrations for her half-decade; one with us, one with JJ’s side, one on Christmas Island when we get there 6yo and ‘Stumpy’, a short-legged Japanese bantam cross chicklet who is no longer with us
Drawing on the Cintiq
[minor pseudonymising edits during Drupal to hugo migration for all the good that will do now] 4yo likes experimenting in all media. Recently I let her have a go with Pixelmator and my Cintiq. This is what she came up with. Now I have to go to Carousel to get her more paints and a canbus. 4yo: Can we get more paints and a canbus? Me: Canbus? Canvas? 4yo: the canbus is what I paint on, silly.
The Mythical Farm of Legend
[minor pseudonymising edits during Drupal to hugo migration for all the good that will do now] Since I first got together with JJ, I have heard stories of the farm which has been in his family for generations (or at least, his grandparents ran it, and it’s now owned and operated by his uncles and their family). It has a name but is just referred to “The Farm”. For the last seven years, JJ has told me he will take me to “The Farm”.You're doing it wrong
Here was supposed to be yet another whingepost about how I’m doing everything wrong and there is now nothing that I “can” drop. So I’m going to see if I can somehow write myself into doing “it” right. The computer room is a f***ing mess There is more crap than there should be on the desk. Most of it is paper that needs to be filed or recycled, and I have just been too damn lazy to process them into the appropriate location.
Not quiet on the !schooling front

Last week, 6yo drew a picture of Venom from Spiderman with black whiteboard marker on paper, including sounding out the name and checking with JJ after writing it out. This week just gone has been crazy. Monday Stay home day. Started off fine. I opted to sleep in (ie stay in the nice warm bed snuggled up with the nice warm kids until they woke up).
Reading and writing
[minor pseudonymising edits during Drupal to hugo migration for all the good that will do now] 2yo loves being read to, and is constantly bringing books to us and demanding “Wead book!” I can also say “duduk” to him and he will sit down. All three kids understand “makan” and “bagus” (6yo used to pronounce it “ba-goo-doos” when he was 2yo’s age :) and that’s as far as I’ve gotten with Malay; my vocabulary is shocking and grammar non-existant.
The initial homeschool moderator visit
[minor pseudonymising edits during Drupal to hugo migration for all the good that will do now] We had our initial visit yesterday, with the next one scheduled for another couple of months. Everything went pretty much as expected. The lady was nice, and was happy with all the learning areas except for English and maths, and also wanted to see more “scientific communication”. 6yo and 4yo set up an experiment to turn a flower blue, directed by 6yo, who had seen a demonstration on some science show on ABC.
Work, Wannabe and other projects and a dash of unschooling

I’ve been (very slowly!) importing livejournal entries so I can replace missing photos. Very minor regret that I didn’t bother skimming through my shadowshifter livejournal before I deleted it as I probably had a few progress reports for my various projects kicking around on it, but oh well.
