Continuum Concept

I finally got around to reading about The Continuum Concept (which I first encountered on the Alternative Baby board but never actually got the chance to read about. My chance came in the form of Tiny fussing, I took him to bed and fed him, and when he didn’t go to sleep I called for Josh to bring in my laptop.
Food!

Bought Tiny a bowl and spoon set today. I thought it was blue and purple but it looks more like pink. Goddammit I hate pink. Least it’s not Barbie pink. I’d have to hunt down whoever manufactured it and shove it down their throat.
Anyways. It’s one of those deals that changes colour if the food is too hot, and it has a nice soft rubbery spoon bit (the handle of which is moulded plastic). So we were having leftovers for dinner and we’d set up Tiny in his high chair with his new bowl and spoon and his cup. I think he’s still a bit small for the high chair we got, he just looked at the bowl and spoon, then at us. He started making chewing motions as we ate, and I tried to encourage him to play with the bowl and spoon by offering him the spoon.
He's keen

Tiny’s been able to sit assisted since he was about three months old or so. He takes a keen interest in the world around him. He’s currently 4.5 months old and he’s been more and more assertively interested in this food thing that JJ and I keep eating, as opposed to just passively interested as he was before (when terrycat suggested we should just give him a tiny bit of apple juice to give him a taste and to which I responded he has the rest of his life to get tastes and now was not the time).
Updates
Quick updates while Tiny is asleep and just before I try to get on with a bit of work before going to bed myself:
- he’s rolling over front to back both ways (hasn’t worked out how to go from back to front yet)
- he commando-crawled forwards a little bit
- he likes being tossed up and down (well he likes the motion of being lifted up and dropped semi-rapidly, but he’s not tossed)
- he’s 8kg or so
There was probably a whole pile of stuff that I wanted to write about but completely unsurprisingly they have all decided to run away and join the navy (or something equally drastic). Should try writing things down when I think of them rather than trying to cram it into my brain along with the rest of stuff I’m trying to think about :)
Garden

I would like to get that backyard sorted out so Tiny can have some nudiebum time out there (can ignore it if he makes a mess then rather than trying to clean it up in here with the carpets n all). At the moment the grass is in sad little patches and the rest is sand. The rest of the garden is a fricken mess. I got a quote from a guy to clear up the plants we want cleared out for $400. I would ask the parents but they’re paying for our trip to Christmas Island (seeing as Mum really wants to see Tiny…and us of course ;) and the last $400 I spent on Lightwave3D[8]. Money well spent, but the next big thing won’t happen for a while. Sigh.
I hate Tuesdays

Thought Tiny was getting better but either it’s Tuesday or he’s gotten worse for today.
Not long after JJ’s car had left the driveway, Tiny (who was down for his morning nap) woke up, had a look around, started crying. I did the usual nappy check, play, and fed after he got really distressed. Checked his nappy again, nothing. He started screaming and I got frustrated not having a clue what he was screaming about therefore no idea what to do about it.
Rolypoly bub!

Tiny rolled from front to back today!
Of course I missed it. I put him down behind me on the floor on his tummy, turned to respond to Sprat and when i turned bacl he was directly under my chair on his back looking somewhat stunned.
Then the tears coz the horrible cold metal support of the chair was touching his skin.
Poor baby :(

Tiny’s not feeling well :(
Nothing too serious I don’t think, just one of those things. He has a bit of the runs and has been wanting to feed lots. I’ve been feeding him anywhere between every hour to his usual 3 hours. He spent most of yesterday with me asleep (JJ was an absolute sweetie and skipped all his tutes and things to stay home and take care of us, I was sick as well and completely useless), and getting his nappy changed.
Cute little prissy face

Josh is currently feeling bad coz he is torn between wanting to do well at uni and having a LOT of work to do and spending time with his son. I can understand him wanting to do well and am trying really hard to encourage him but at the same time I am prbably not helping by reminding him that unlike uni which can be repeated, Tiny is never going to be this little again. I want him to spend more time with us but time is really hard to come by, and when he is spending time with Tao he is so wrecked and just wants to sleep.
Have said it once, will say it many more times

Read on the Alternative Baby forum and then heard on the news while driving back, about some mother who fell asleep with her newborn in the bed and woke up to find it dead.
That in my opinion is one of the worst possible things that could ever happen to anyone.
