July Homeschool Miscellany Breakdown into Educationese

Wednesday, 19 August 2020 @ 11:30pm

I wrote July HS Misc pretty late at night and completely forgot I had told @bearone I would do this one (which is “the next one” from my last one XD) with explanations as to how our crazy shenanigans can translate into stuff to soothe the Education Department. Was going to edit the original post but it got a bit messy and I started rewriting the entire thing so thought it might be somewhat safer to do a “companion” type post. And I’ll be somewhat recycling the photos from that post (though I think I’ll just screenie the sets to make my life easier), so watch out for the fake wounds again.

August ProgBlog #3: fingers

Sunday, 16 August 2020 @ 10:37pm

There has been some hilarity with some of my previous progblogs as I’ve shared the dodgy looking things that usually end up happening whenever I’m building (at least characters, I haven’t done much else recently x_x)

Blender 2.88 sculpt mode annoying bumps in mesh that won't go away no matter what

The above screenie is not that dodgy, it’s just highlighting those irritating bumps. All I want is a perfectly smooth mesh but pparently there are vertices that just jut out for no apparent reason regardless of what I’m doing with autosmooth and the smooth brush settings. I have wasted so much time on this that it’s well beyond ridiculous.

July Homeschool Miscellany

Wednesday, 12 August 2020 @ 10:50am

WARNING: there are fake wounds made of Vaseline, flour and red food colouring about halfway through this post.

Broke the habit!

For now.

My head is still all over the place and and trying to get and keep organised is presenting its usual massive challenge, exacerbated by the fact the children have been staggering being exhausted for no apparent reason lately (a possible reason is growth spurts, because they’re lethargic and sleep a lot and suddenly they’re bigger, especially the boys).

August ProgBlog #2: back to the grind

Saturday, 8 August 2020 @ 3:32pm

This is a really boring phase where things are super slow going but they need to be done to keep me happy.

still sculpting in Blender 2.8

Other people obsess about mesh smoothness and stuff in obscure places like the soles of feet right?

Yes I’m aware the tail is still a bit of a mess, seems like I’m going to have to edit the normal map for that one -_-

I’m kind of mostly trying to repair shapes but also seem to create a hell of a lot of dents before it will smooth out. I don’t know why that is. I guess the autosmooth gets confused sometimes.

August ProgBlog #1: and then one thing led to another and...

Sunday, 2 August 2020 @ 5:59pm

WARNING: if you’re an ultraprude there’s a nude character in here but only the breasts are somewhat detailed, while you can see the crotch area due to lack of clothes there isn’t even implied genitalia.

So there I was, just smoothing out Red’s feet and toes and fixing toenails that needed fixing

Blender 2.8 sculpting feet

when I decided that I should draw Zara in a hive hoodie since I’ve drawn her in a steem hoodie previously (and Kurenai in a steem shirt). Hot on the heels of that I figured I may as well use the 3d model of Zara seeing as it’s more or less finished. So of course I had to fix the proportions of the model first. After a lot of glaring and trying to figure out if the legs were too long or the torso too short, I finally decided on the former and ran it past Sprat who helpfully marked up a screenie for me.

July ProgBlog #2: minified progblog

Wednesday, 29 July 2020 @ 12:00am

I’m severely out of it. I’m currently struggling (and mostly failing) to not revert to my owlish ways.

I don’t even remember why I didn’t post the progblog on Friday.

Oh yes, I had an extra child (11yo had a friend sleeping over for the weekend).

I also hadn’t finished the tail at the time and I was sick of posting pictures of the unfinished tail.

Then I stayed up way too late last night because I finally finished it.

April/May/June Homeschool Miscellany

Saturday, 18 July 2020 @ 5:40pm

I think I’ve inadvertently set that precedent I was trying to avoid x_x I blame covid.

During the period of “self isolation” (we were advised to not go out unless it was for essential purposes such as grocery shopping but full lockdown was never enforced), aside from occasionally trying to push bookwork (which is always destined for failure when everyone hates it so much), we all ended up just doing our own thing.

Family Day

Friday, 17 July 2020 @ 10:34am

Partly pointless preamable

The title is actually terrible but it’s the working title I gave the files and I can’t think of a better one ^_^;

The following is the same fic from two different points of view. I initially wrote them in breaks from ironing the tail, and was trying to figure out which one to post when I remembered that I had once upon a time wanting to try writing the same situation from the viewpoints of different characters, and must have subconsciously remembered that when doing it.

Pretty shinies

Tuesday, 7 July 2020 @ 11:41am

After an epic two day battle with my phone and my computer, I am now able to show off my new shinies.

bearone's orgonites and candle

What you’re seeing here are the purple flower that I bought from @bearone for 200 hive, an owl that she said I could have because she loves me (awww ^_^ I did tell her I wanted to buy one when she was ready to sell them) and a candle that made me really glad I was extremely careful about unpacking the box because I had no idea it was in there. It has a really nice smell that was slightly overwhelming when I first opened the box (it was a small box and I thought she just sprayed essential oil into the box to make it nice for the recipient when they received their goods but nope bonus scented candle XD).

July ProgBlog #1: guess who's stuck, stuck again

Monday, 6 July 2020 @ 10:45am

If you are new to 3d, getting stuck and having to rework things using better techniques that you figure out later is perfectly normal (unless you’re a prodigy).

And if you went to some fancy school to learn stuff, experiment anyway because the stuff taught in schools is one way to do things, not the only or necessarily best way to do things.

I originally held off progblog on Friday because I got cool things from @bearone which I wanted to write about instead, but my computer and phone don’t want to interact properly (I can plug the phone in, tell it to trust the computer, the computer can see the phone and see all the photos and videos on the phone, but importing is flakey. Sometimes stuff will go in (including old stuff which it can’t seem to work out is old stuff which then ends up in completely the wrong date folder even though it’s supposed to be sorted by exif date which is shown correctly, at this stage I don’t even know how it’s sorting things but it’s absolutely not doing what it’s supposed to be doing).
