3d-fyn hair progression

I had to redo the hair emitters about a million times because I kept blowing something up (and not knowing what I blew up, but combing strands in Particle Mode is kind of amusing for a while). When I finally got that sorted my first test looked like a polyp colony.

When I eventually got something I liked I couldn’t work out how to get the red (which is actually supposed to be bleached but I just grabbed a random high constrasting colour at the time) to just be on the mohawk (probably needed a uv map) and then the fuzz on the side was playing silly buggers.

After a lot of stuffing around with particle settings, weight maps and node trees, this will do til I can be bothered redoing the mohawk with a billion guide strands which is what I think I did to get the other result.

That’s usually closer to what I look like after striding out of the hairdresser’s anyway. And it no longer looks like wool.
Node trees for the fuzz and the mohawk:

Have nails to do next, then I’ll go and work out a face rig and then do some posed stills and maybe a quickie (hah!) animation. Should probably make myself some props as well, though I’m more likely to swerve on to doing AR characters once I finish the face rig.
